How should you do your makeup if your skin is really dry and flakey?

Normally my skin isn't dry, but i've been having some trouble with acne lately so my dermatologist told me to use duac. It's working for the acne but it REALLY dries my skin off. I dont know how to apply foundation or coverup with it, but i can't stop using duac because it really works! Please help :(
